PQCT in space research To investigate bone loss during long-term space flights, the European Space Agency (ESA) in Toulouse and the Center for Muscle and Bone Research in Berlin under the direction of Prof. Dieter Felsenberg immobilised probands for 3 and 2 months respectively. Preliminary results show a significant loss of muscle and bone due to the immobilisation. Nevertheless this loss is reversible. A few weeks after the probands were remobilised, muscle function almost returned to normal. The regeneration of bone took much longer. Vibration training with Galileo stopped muscle and bone loss considerably.
